My Mail Art This DIWALI

Hello Friends

Remember being a kid and how your parents would check in the mailbox  in the midst of bills and coupons, find an envelope addressed to you. Would it be a party invitation or a letter from a friend who moved away? The possibilities were endless, but always good. In today’s digital age, people don’t send as much mail as they used to, but that doesn’t mean the fun of giving and getting mail has ended. Mail has always and will always be awesome. Getting exciting mail doesn’t have to be a distant childhood memory. My reason for sending mails is it will surprise and delight people.

For me Mail art is given freely, without the expectation of something in return.
Mail art (also known as postal art and correspondence art) is a populist artistic movement centered on sending small scale works through the postal service. The simplest definition of mail art is that it is any art that’s created with the intention of sending it through the mail. Mail art can include postcards, faux postage, decorated envelopes, friendship books, and the ever popular naked mail.

If you have to mail it to complete the creative experience, it’s mail art!

I have tried handlettering on envelopes and sent out Diwali cards along... This is the way im celebrating Diwali this year counting my blessings and grateful to all the well wishers !

I sent this mail out to dear Dr Sonia from Cards ,Crafts ,Kids Projects. She is someone I adore in the crafting industry and one of my  BLENDS (BLENDS means Blogger Friends).

For this mail I have repurposed an wedding invite envelope and added a postcard on its cover . I have decorated the postcard with hand drawn roses in pink on the  corners . These roses were made using watercolor crayons . I have tried handlettering with Tombow brush pens and totally love the out come. The envelope contains few gifts and crafting accessories and I have tied it with a twine to seal the envelope .

I have decorated a spiral bound note book outer cover . This is one of my fast sellers at the craft fairs and something I love creating ! Here again I have tried handlettering a  quote and embellished it flower from Itsy bitsy. I have added die cuts and doily along with chipboard butterfly on a rosette  to the album and done up the corners with a a washi tape giving it a lovely look !

My next Mail art was sent out to Priya Cv from JOURNAL YOUR HEART OUT and this went out specially for her Birthday celebrations .

I have created this cover using a wedding invite . It was big sturdy and beautiful , have been hoarding this for a year finally before the couple celebrates their anniversary I took up the courage of using it.
I have used this as a card to put in inserts , so personalised the cover with the name Piyu that's how I address her . Punched a hole to tie the cover together.

Inside the flip I have decorated and added a Birthday card for her . Details of this card can be found in my earlier post Here .

I have created a flip album for her to journal her birthday memories or pictures . The cover is decorated with the gorjuss gal stamp set and coloured with copics. I have added butterfly tape border I picked up from my Singapore trip years ago from DAISO.

I have added a tag for wishing her on the corner.

I have used Cardstock from Peekaboodesigns to make the flip album here

The photo mats on the flips are made using Amy Tangerine Stitched stack for this , it features a gorgeous watercolor palette of buttercup yellow, soft grays and shades of aqua.

I have added a mini envelope to hold die cuts and adhered it washi tape so it can be easily removed and used by her . I was thrilled to see her reaction as she received this mail !!

I have a Snail mail Swap partner Jayana shah from Jayana's Jolly Cards

I sent out a Gorjuss girl card and a Mini album along with few gifts and crafting accessories and I have tied it with a bakers twine to seal the envelope .

Here is one more , last one for this post but Let me tell you more on the way and will be published only after the person receives it !

This beautiful mail went out to dear FB friend Rashmee Panwar Rana. I was soo excited and in hurry to send out her the mail that I forgot to click a pictures:P Now that she posted it on the facebook page I have updated the same here .

For this mail I have decorated the envelope and hand lettered again . I have sent along a card, details can be found Here and Tag details Here . She has been such a sweetheart and shared the whole mail here. The envelope contains few gifts and crafting accessories and I have tied it with a washi tape to seal the envelope .

Mail makes people happy in a different way than texts and emails. Brighten someone’s day by sending them mail. Wishing you all a very Happy Deepavali !!

Diwali Cards set 2

Hello friends

Today I am sharing one more set of Diwali cards I have made . I do not own Diwali specific stamps or dies but every year I make sure I put together diwali cards with an Indian twist to it .

On the occasion of Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi sitting on a lotus flower is worshiped on this day. In Hinduism , lotus is considered a sacred flower symbolizing purity, auspiciousness and spiritual perfection.

Its unfolding petals suggest the expansion of the soul to embrace one and all. It is also regarded as a symbol of divine birth and unattached spiritual development to attain nirvana. Because the lotus rises from dirty and muddy water to blossom as a pure flower, therefore, it is a symbol of resurrection. This aspect of lotus reminds one to remain pure and detached under all circumstances. Since lotus blooms in the morning and withdraws its petals in the night, it signifies that one’s mind blooms with the illumination of self- knowledge and cringes without it.

Keeping that in mind for my cards I have used Lotus stamp set from peekaboodesigns and created 2 different cards.

For the First card I have given lotus stamp border and kept it simple with adding sentiments .

Happy sentiment is from we r memory keepers stamp and die set and Diwali sentiment is again from peekaboodesigns.

In the second card I have used 2 different Lotus stamps and created a border and corner along with the sentiments .

Handmade Diwali Cards 2017

Hello Friends

Diwali or Deepavali is the Hindu festival of lights celebrated every year in autumn in the northern hemisphere (spring in southern hemisphere)

As the Countdown to Diwali begins... I have a lot of simple ideas to try out this season...
I am currently back in Bangalore from our wonderful stay in Birmingham UK. With so much going around at the home front now  taking time out to get ready for our favourite festival and you can read all about it here .

For Todays creation I have used a single Stamp set and created this card and have tried 6 different variations with them .

First set of 3 cards focus on a Big Mandala design with different colours combinations and I have used Hindi sentiment here .

Here are 3 cards with same mandala design but in different colours and variations . I have the sentiments stamped in Hindi .

I am sending these cards out to to the group "Cards for a Cause" as a part of Diwali celebrations a card drive initiative . I decided to take up this initiative like every year to bring smiles on the faces of some orphan kids and old age people deserted by their family. On the occasion of Diwali lets spread the happiness of lights with those who dont have or have been deserted by their family and share our blessings with them.

Supplies used
Stamp Set from Itsy Bitsy ,
Hindi sentiments from peekaboodesigns
Glitter embellishments

Quarterly Crafting Goals

 Hello friends

Yes I am talking about my Crafting Goals and putting it up; Hoping that this will make me more responsible toward it !

I was able to achieve much of my goals in the last 3 Quarters but I need to be more focused. I felt I was all over the place while trying to achieve the set goals. Most of my goals are still the same, but there a few tweaks here and there. So, without further ado, I present to you my Crafting Goals for this Quater or call It all that I want to do before 2018 :p

USE MY ACCUMULATED CRAFT STASH
Over the past few years, I have accumulated a lot of pattern paper pads, stamps, stickers ,ribbon, etc.
So I have decided that this year, if I feel like I need new inspiration then I'm going to "Shop My Stash". Ever few weeks, I'm going to use my stamps, dies, embossing folders in rotation so that all get used. Also I will be buying only basic crafting stuff that too when required.

POST AT LEAST ONE CARD EVERY WEEK

I really enjoy the creative pressure of making a lot of cards during the craft fairs, but I do not post them simultaneously. Making new card really makes me feel good .
I will strive and do my very best to uphold it!

SUBMIT TO MORE CHALLENGES
I did participate in a few challenges and to be true, they did help me come out of my comfort zone. I'm planning to do more of it. So, I guess I'm just going to continue doing it more and more and more....

TRY MAKING SHAPED CARDS
I’m going to start by making regular cards in different shapes, then as I master that .

SEND MORE BIRTHDAY CARDS
I have realised that over the years, I make a lot of cards, but forget to post it out on time to my near and dear ones on their special days.

PUT MYSELF OUT THERE MORE
I am going to try, try, try... and keep trying. I had a lot of success last year and I want to do even bigger and better things this coming year - so I have to keep trying!

BE A BETTER CRAFTING COMMUNITY MEMBER
I follow quite a few blogs I will aim to comment more, to support more and to explore more.
There's a whole load of talent and inspiration out there and I don't want to keep missing it!

TAKE BETTER PHOTOS
This year I want to excel with props and make the aesthetics of card photography more eminent.

CHALLENGE YOURSELF
I want to do something new this year. So I am thinking of starting a series on my blog. I think I will do a series on card making techniques, that will be fun!.

AND FINALLLYYYYY………..
HAVE FUN WITH IT

Yes I will still want to keep getting better and better than what I’m right now, and then better myself some more. But I will do it all whilst having fun. So, I do hope you'll keep joining me throughout 2018 to provide support and encouragement as I keep working towards these goals.

3D over the hill Scenery.

Hello Friends
I have tried to create a scene here :P

For all my love for papers and hoarding them, at times I wonder what I want to do with them ?

Today I just decided to get going and put some papers in use . The best way is Die cutting isnt it ?
Die cutting for cards and layouts is a no-brainer and so much fun to do.  I started Die cutting way back in 2012 and I use The Sizzix Big Shot Die Cutting Machine. It lets you create perfect shapes and emboss beautiful textures, all with no wires or software. The Big Shot is an excellent die-cutting machine for beginners and more experienced crafters alike. Simply turn the handle to spin the smooth, heavy duty rollers on the machine, and let the machine work its magic on your paper, card or fabric as it passes through.

Design and create your own one-of- a- kind cards, invitations, scrapbook pages, home d├ęcor, fashion, altered art, quilting and more at the turn of a handle. You'll have professional quality creations at your fingertips.

Now there are so many new and updated options For all those who want to know more about Die cutting here is The Ultimate Guide To Die Cutting.

For this creation -

  • I have created a Over the hill scene here using dies from MFT Die-namics Stitched Basic Edges .

  • The train is from Itsy Bitsy Thin Cut Dies - 3D Scenery.

  • Happy is a die cut again and birthday is stamped

  • I have adhered the diecuts with double sided foam tape to create 3D scene or Pop up the elements .

Sometimes simple things become the need of the hour and keeping it simple joy for life !

Newton Dreams of London

Hello friends ,

I have been playing along  “The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge” and it is a challenge to color something everyday even if it’s for five minutes.
This card is created as I play with my copics and learn the tips and tricks along .
  • The card background is grey depicting the London weather.
  • I have added a second layer on the card that is coloured with water colour crayons.
  • I have used bristol board with my favourite colour combination of blue, navy and lavender here  as they are the shades of the evening sky .
  • The Big Ben and the Cat are stamps from Newton Dreams of london from Newton Nook designs .
  • I have coloured the stamped images with my copics .
  •  The sentiments are from the same stamp set and further I have added a washi  tape and some pearls to complte my creation .

This card is dear to me as we visited london this year and got the chance to see and hear the Big Ben.
Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London and is usually extended to refer to both the clock and the clock tower as well.

Big Ben has fallen silent for major repair work expected to last until 2021. The midday bongs were the last regular chimes from the famous bell until the repairs to its tower are complete. It will still be used for special occasions, including New Year's Eve and Remembrance Sunday. The "drab" colour scheme on the Great Clock will also be changed to give it a more "vibrant" look, is all in news

Ending this post with a  picture of my little boy , who only wanted to see the Big Ben during our visit to London .
